Earlier this summer, we specifically remember asking the question: "could Batman: Arkham Asylum become the best superhero video game ever?" Well, it has become the highest-rated superhero game already...but we had no idea that was enough to get you into the Guinness Book of World Records.
According to Electronic Theatre, the popular and downright superb action title was awarded a Guinness World Record for the "Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever." It has already received great scores from many major sources (two 9.5s from Game Informer, a 9 from GameSpot, a 9.3 from IGN, etc.) and it currently holds a 91.67 average review rating, so says Metacritic. Featuring an entirely original story by Paul Dini (5-time Emmy Award winner whose credits include "Lost" and "Batman: The Animated Series"), Arkham Asylum is one of the top games of 2009. Said Gaz Deaves from Guinness World Records:
"We are so pleased to be awarding Batman: Arkham Asylum a Guinness World Record. It is a fantastic new game and due to the reaction of gaming experts we believe it has a well deserved place in the Guinness World Records book."
See, it's not based on any of the recent "Batman" films, which probably helped. The only problem we have is that they didn't wait for our analysis; we're working on it, but shouldn't you have waited? Okay, maybe not...but anyway, our review should be coming for this weekend or Monday at the latest, so stay tuned for that...as if you didn't already know the game was pretty damn great.
